About Us
Hello fellow wildlife enthusiasts and welcome to The Wildlife Travel Blog! We are Ryan & Lottie, a wildlife-loving couple from the UK who met whilst studying Zoology at university. We are both complete wildlife nerds and also love to travel, so we have made it one of our goals to travel the world and experience as much of its wildlife as possible.
Our Background
Firstly, we LOVE wildlife! As two people that grew up obsessed with animals and decided to go to university to study BSc. Zoology and later MSc. Ecology (Lottie) and MSc. Evolutionary Biology (Ryan), we of course have a crazy passion for the natural world.
In addition to studying nature, we both love to travel and see wildlife for ourselves. Being from the UK, we grew up admiring much of our world’s most iconic wildlife from afar, often shared to us through our television screens by our heroes such as David Attenborough and Steve Irwin. Seeing these creatures for ourselves was always a dream of both of ours.
Despite this we were still enthralled by our own wildlife here in the UK. And during the pandemic, with lots of time on our hands, Ryan got particularly into going out into nature and taking up wildlife photography.
Why we started the blog?
The idea behind The Wildlife Travel Blog came about after months of travelling through Australia and Asia, spending countless hours intensely researching and planning for our next dream wildlife experience along the way.
It quickly became evident that finding information on how to see different wildlife in many of the areas we visited was extremely difficult to do online – especially when it came to planning to see wildlife during our trips in Asia.
It is for this reason that we decided to create this blog; to create a place to share and document our own experiences in wildlife and travel, and in doing so, hopefully offer inspiration and guidance to like-minded people who wish to get out there and appreciate the natural world for themselves.
This blog will hopefully combine our love of nature, travel and photography, and help to inspire, guide and enable you to do the same!
What to expect?
We aim to create a place for wildlife and travel enthusiasts to learn about what is out there and some of the ways that they can experience it for themselves, and hopefully all on a relatively low backpacking budget.
We will post a mixture of personal stories, how-to guides, wildlife destination reviews, photography tips and tricks, and a whole host of other wildlife and travel related things!
Our Journey so far
From July 2023 until March 2024, we have spent 8 months travelling across Australia and Asia and experienced A LOT of wildlife on the way.
Here was our itinerary for our first trip:
- Australia – 2 months
- Indonesia – 2 months
- Vietnam – 1.5 months
- Thailand – 1 month
- Laos – 1 week
- Sri Lanka – 1 month
- India – 1 month
We tried to pack in as much wildlife as possible throughout so we hope we can share some interesting things with you and maybe inspire you to visit some of these places for yourselves.
We have also previously experienced some amazing wildlife in the likes of Arctic Sweden, Scotland’s Inner Hebrides, Malta and throughout England.
